Renderings Emerge of New 5-inch iPhone. Does the Math Add Up?
By Siva Om
Well, everyone certtainly seems excited about the possibility of a new, larger iPhone. Recently Forbes, The Washington Post and MacRumors have all run stories detailing the rumors swirling around the new iPhone. I also really appreciated the thorough way Rene Ritchie over at iMore breaks things down with regard to the numbers and science of a nearly 5-inch iPhone screen. I know I for one, am looking forward to the eventuality of a larger iPhone -or a smaller iPad mini. The iPad mini is a bit bigger than what I'm looking for, to use wherever I go, and the iPhone 5 is a bit smaller than what I'd like for full-time use.

Apple Posts Record Quarter, Stock Plunges
By Jim Karpen
On Wednesday Apple reported their earnings for the December quarter. It was their best quarter yet, and the fourth most profitable quarter of any company in history. Yet their stock plunged by 11%. It's now trading at around 450 after cresting above 700 a few months ago. What gives? In short, market analysts tend to expect Apple to be perfect. And they saw some weaknesses in Apple's report: they had expected Apple to sell at least 50 million iPhones, but Apple reported 47 million sold. Apple also sold a million fewer computers than expected.oesn't help sales that bloggers like me keep passing along rumors of the Next iPhone.

Cold Weather Apps: For Freezing Your Tookus Off
By Adam Harvey
We’re in the dead of it now, iPhone Life-ers! It’s winter and it’s colder than a polar bear’s nose out there! I was walking to my car the other day, and my eyes literally iced over! I thought I might be blinded for life! I’m wearing ski goggles all the time from now on. Winter Wake Up Know what I really don’t like? Waking up at the regular time only to discover that I need a pickaxe to get my car door open. Digging out is not a fast process, so I kind of love the idea of the Winter Wake Up app. It’s a simple app that works like an alarm clock with a twist. It wakes you up earlier if there’s going to be a nasty weather surprise waiting for you.

MAME Returns to the App Store This Time Hidden in a Game Called Gridlee
A new game has been released in the App Store that offers a little more than meets the eye. Gridlee was a game that was originally developed for the arcade back in 1982 and never released; that is until now. It is a really simple game as you would imagine as it dates back to 1982; what’s interesting here however is that it is built on the MAME4iOS engine. The information comes from Touch Arcade whose eagle eyed forum members made the discovery.

Unauthorized Unlocking of New Phones to be Illegal in US
Have you been thinking about unlocking your iPhone? Unlocking is the process that allows your iPhone to work on multiple networks that use the same wireless standard, so it's perfect for international travelers who buy SIM cards from local carriers instead of being tied to international roaming charges. Other folks love the ability to switch carriers on a whim. Well, effective January 26, 2013 -- tomorrow -- unauthorized unlocking of new phones becomes illegal in the US. If you want an unlocked iPhone, there are several legal workarounds. For example, if you buy an iPhone 5 from Verizon, it's unlocked out of the box.

Rock Center Looks at iPhone as the Future of Medicine
Dr. Eric Topol, chief academic officer of Scripps Health, is a well-known cardiologist who is at the forefront of wireless medicine. In a segment on NBC News' Rock Center, Topol talks about how he is prescribing apps instead of medicine to treat his patients. Topol believes we are at the forefront of a medical revolution that'll be driven by smartphone-enabled medical devices. He shows off a handheld ultrasound machine and an iPhone-connected EKG machine that he uses to treat his patients. Topol claims wireless devices will streamline medicine and reduce costs because procedures will be conducted in the primary care physician's office or even at home.

Could the iPhone 6 Feature a Slide-Out Keyboard? [Rumor]
The iPhone is famous for many things: fast operation, high functionality and an interface that is, quite frankly, to die for. What it’s also famous for is not having a slide-out keyboard. That could change, however, with the introduction of the iPhone 6. While such a thing is only a rumor at this time, the rumor is enough to give one pause. What would the iPhone be like if it had a slide-out keyboard? An article posted by The News Tribe features an artist’s rendering of what the device would look like if such a feature were to be added, along with breathless support for the concept.

Get Happy – Ways to Increase Your Happiness
Lisa Patterson-Kane, $0.99
by Alex Paul

The Get Happy app was designed by a practicing clinical psychologist to give its users useful tips and advice to help them improve their overall happiness in their life. This is done using evidence-based advice known to be effective for a wide range of different people. As you get the advice each day you can rate it on how well it applies to your specific life so that the app can better tailor future tips to you. While this app cannot replace the advice of a professional therapist, it does a great job at giving you small reminders to keep working on the improvement of your life.

How It Works

When you buy this app you’ll have access to hundreds of different tips which have been proven to be effective by clinical psychologists. The tips are pushed to your mobile device each day from one of four different categories which have the biggest impact in people’s lives. These categories are relationships, personal growth, leisure and work/education.

When you start the app for the first time you can set how happy you are in each of these four categories so that the app will provide you with tips in the areas where you need the most advice. You can adjust the settings on each of these areas as time passes as well so the app will always be best suited for the situation you are in at the time.

You can also go through and manually read the tips if you have some extra time and are looking to get some information quickly. Whether you search through one category or you use the search feature to find any advice on a specific topic, this is a great way to get a jump start into improving your happiness.

Each tip has a main subject and then a paragraph or two of information about what the tip is and how you can put it into action in your life. When you receive your daily tip you can read through it and learn what it is saying in just a few minutes which make this a simple way to help guide your life in the right direction.

If you find any specific tips which you believe are very helpful to yourself, or you know someone who could benefit from a particular tip you can share it using email, Twitter or Facebook quickly and easily. This is a great little feature which helps this app become even more useful to yourself and others you know.

While this app is great for people who are unhappy as it can help lead them slowly toward happiness in their life, it is also perfect for people who are already quite happy and just looking to improve. The app is full of great tips which can make small, but significant changes in anyone’s life. The app is for people of all ages though some of the concepts might be too complex for the youngest users. This app is not intended to replace any professional therapy you may be seeking.

Tip of the Week

Streamline Street Names in iOS 6 Maps
Under iPhone Settings, go to the Maps section and change the label size to small. The smaller text allows more street names to appear on screen at once, so you don't have to zoom in to see them all.
